The parish of Llangathen is bounded by the parishes of Llanegwad, Llanfynydd, Llandeilo Fawr, Llandyfeisant, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Llanarthney and by the rivers Towy, Dulais, Sannan, Parcau and Myddfi.
It is transversed from East to West by the A40 Fishguard to London and crossed by the B4297 through Dryslwyn, Court Henry and Llanfynydd and by the C2152 through Golden Grove to Capel Isaac. All footpaths from 42/2 to 42/23 criss cross the parish.

Schools
There are no schools in the parish but Court Henry School provides primary education.
- Cylch Meithrin (Welsh pre-school) is held at the Reading Room, Court Henry for four mornings a week.

Sites of Historical Interest
1. Grongar Hill. Pre-Roman Celtic Fort in private ownership.
2. Dryslwyn Castle. Open to public from the local picnic area near Dryslwyn Bridge. It was one of the castles of the Welsh princes and witnessed many battles and sieges.
3. Aberglasney Mansion and Gardens. Possibly dating back to the 13th Century. It has many features of 16th Century and Queen Elizabeth 1st period. Restored and maintained by the Aberglasney Restoration Trust and open to the public all the year round.
4. Llangathen Church with Bishop Rudd Tomb. Bishop Rudd was the bishop of St. David Diocese. He preferred to be buried near his home at Aberglasney rather that at his Cathedral which was normal practice.
5. Llethr Cadfan. Early 15th Century, originally known as Cefn Melgoed, home of the influential Vaughan Fychaniaid family. The battle of Llethr Cadfan took place in 1646 between the Royalist forces and the Oliver Cromwell Parliamentary forces. Nearly 100 Royalists taken prisioner and held at Haverfordwest Castle. Local legend has it that the parliamentary forces had stabled their horses in Llangathen Church. The Vaughan family also built Court Henry Mansion, Glandulais Fawr, Lanlash and Brynhafod Fawr.
6. Penhill was at one time the home of the Vicar of Llangathen, William Hughes and his son Samuel Hughes who was a staunch royalist in the Civil War.
Public Houses / Inns
There is now only one Inn in the parish namely the Cottage Inn, Pentrefelin.
